The objective of the brief was to find a new site for the historical Johannesburg Gasworks building and then find a new practical use for the building.
The brief included a site and context analysis in order to find the best site and the best use for the building and redesign the interior of it accordingly. The brief then included a precedent study and pushed the concept and the design language that the building was redesigned in for the new use.
The new site for the building is located in the Greenlyn Village Centre in Pretoria. This site was chose because of mid density the residential area it is located in and the amount of movement already around the site. The new use for the site would be a waiting and delivery area for UBER taxi drivers and UBER delivery drivers which doubles as a applications office for UBER.
The new use of the building would fit well into the area since it is in a suburban area that is close to restaurants, a post office, schools, the University of Pretoria and the Hazelwood Market that is held on the weekend. The building would also have a drone delivery station that would deliver packages at convenient times to the customer in the surrounding area.
